Best foot forward

Organised chaos reigns in the office today. Just as we are trying to bed things down a wee bit to allow us breathing space through which to walk the 145 miles from London to Birmingham, the world starts to gather pace. Word on African Space is creeping out into the wider world and The Dive Show at the NEC Birmingham will soon be upon us, so it looks like along with the vaseline, spare socks and chocolate (room for sponsorship?) bars we must pack our lap tops and chargers. Here’s hoping that connectivity in rural England is not as bad as people say it is.

The feeling here at African Space HQ is one of excitement: the route is set, camp sites are arrangement and the kit is gathered – vaguely. Fortunately, Mick, our Logistics Manager and Wise Owl, ably assisted by Mr Pete has a grip on all things important, so I guess that all we have to do is walk. That’s good, I like simple things, me.

We may get lonely though, or just thoroughly bored of one another’s company, which is where you lot, our great and glorious friends, come in. Please have a look at the Google Map of our route (see the link on the left hand side of the blog homepage) that sits on the blog. If you are anywhere near one of our resting places, then please do come down and see us; I think we may need all the encouragement we can get. We aim to contribute to the blog as often as possible, so sign up to the updates and you will see the story of our Great Trek unfold before your very eyes.

But however hard the steps become, however long the road; it will be easy to keep going. The team walks because by doing so we will raise money for the construction of a medical centre in Itete Village, Tanzania, that will quite simply bring the gift of life to those to  who previously it would have been denied. As I said, I like simple.

So, before I sign off, I would like to thank all those who have supported us so generously already and to everybody else, there is still time to make a donation. All you have to do is visit the Walking For Itete Just Giving team page and chose who you would like to sponsor.

Wish us luck as you wave us goodbye……….
