We’ve been away awhile, not by choice, but by the technical gremlins who locked us out. But, have no fear, we are back with our stories of Africa to share. Jamie wasn’t locked out, he was actually away chasing sardines in South Africa, but you must wait for his stories until he gets back from kitesurfing in Tanzania. It’s a tough life!
Our big news is that we have decided to do something physical as our contribution to the work of building the medical centre in Itete, central Taanzania. Project:Itete, supported by the African Space Trust is racing ahead and should be completed by August 2012, but success requires constant support and this is our little bit.
Walking being such large part of the African experience, we have decided to reflect this by completing a sponsored walk from London to Birmingham. From 18th to 24th September, Jamie, Brady Roberts, Pete Griffiths and I will be trotting (at the start) along the twists and turns of the Grand Union Canal. Casting a shadow through Middlesex, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire and Birmingham, we will be aiming to raise as much money as we can and sending it all over to Itete to make sure work continues as long as the weather will allow.
As ever, this is a community thing and the walk will be nothing without your help. Please follow our updates on the walkingforitete posterous blog. There you will find out who is walking, the route and the reasons we are doing such a silly thing. Being such modern and uptodate things, we will be adding pictures and videos as we go, which should keep you amused. We are also looking for sponsors to help with accommodation and food expenses, so please forward this blog/page onto anyone you believe may be willing to help.
I am off to Itete next week, so will return at the end of August with a current report of progress and loads of enthusiasm. I may even refrain from bleating when those blisters start to form.
Or maybe not.
